R422D is an easy-to-use and ozone-friendly HFC refrigerant. It was originally designed to replace R22 in many air conditioning and refrigeration applications.

Studies have indicated that R422D’s COP is, on average, 20% lower than of R22 (COP, CoP, CP = coefficient of performance). Thanks to its high GWP value, however, it will be replaced with refrigerants with a lower GWP.  For plant whose condenser is air cooled, R422D could lead to increase the fan speed or to adopt bigger blowers. (Source: Researchgate.net)

APPLICATIONS AND USE

For example cooling and air conditioning applications in residential buildings, low and medium temperature cooling applications with direct evaporation, department store systems, fixed DX air conditioning applications and DX water coolers.

R422D’s GWP is 2729 (> 2,500), which means that its maintenance use will be banned as of 1 January 2020 with a minimum charge of 40 carbon dioxide equivalent tonnes. However, maintenance use will still be permitted for reclaimed or recycled refrigerant
